Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke and Acting Queensland Minister for Sport Simon Finn today unveiled the Games logo that will be seen by millions of television viewers around the world.

A Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games logo has been added to hull of the city?s Clipper racing yacht, Gold Coast Australia.

Gold Coast Mayor Ron Clarke and Acting Queensland Minister for Sport Simon Finn today unveiled the Games logo that will be seen by millions of television viewers around the world.

Mayor Clarke said having the Council-sponsored yacht carry the logo around the world for the remaining six months of the race was a fantastic opportunity.

?The Clipper Round the World Yacht race attracts an enormous world-wide audience and having our Games logo, even if it is only an interim one, beamed into millions of homes is wonderful promotion for the city and for the 2018 Games,? said Cr Clarke.

?With Gold Coast Australia leading the race overall thanks to the amazing efforts of its skipper Richard Hewson and courageous crew, and the yacht now proudly displaying our Games logo, the sponsorship has truly been worth every dollar.

?All our residents should note the Games logo is now minus the words ?candidate city?.?

Minister Finn said while the Commonwealth Games was still a long way off, showcasing the Gold Coast as the 2018 host city had significant benefits.

?Promoting the Gold Coast as a Commonwealth Games host city is not just about ensuring the success of the event in 2018, it?s about showcasing the Gold Coast to the world, attracting interest in the city as an exciting visitor destination and luring business investment in the lead up,? said the Minister.

?2018 will not only be a Gold Coast Games, it will also be a Queensland and Australian Games and there is no doubt in my mind that all Australians will feel a strong sense of pride when they see the Games logo on Gold Coast Australia.

?The yacht and its crew epitomise the wonderful excitement and spirit of adventure the Gold Coast is renowned for and it?s this spirit that will ensure our Games in 2018 is one of the most unique and successful ever.?

Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Bid CEO, Mark Peters, said it was great to see the ?interim? logo on the yacht and was a unique opportunity to initiate promotion of the 2018 Gold Coast City Games around the world.
