Man charged with 2001 rape

Sunshine Coast detectives yesterday charged a 37-year-old man with rape following on-going investigations into an alleged rape which occurred 10 years ago. It will be alleged that a 15-year-old teenage girl was sexually assaulted by a man armed with a knife in the early hours of March 3, 2001, as she walked in parkland located near David Low Way. The Sunshine Coast man is due to appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on January 10 where he also faces charges of deprivation of liberty and assault with intent. School?s out for Queensland state school students

More than 386,000 Queensland state school students from Prep to Year 9 will begin six weeks of holidays today, marking the end of the 2011 school year. Education Minister Cameron Dick said the Prep to year 9 students were the last of almost 490,000 state school students to end the school year and start their annual summer break. ?I wish all our students a safe and happy holiday and thank teachers, school staff and parents for their hard work and dedication during the academic year,? Mr Dick said. ?Year 12 students finished on November 18, Year 10 and 11 students on November 25, and Prep to Year 9 students at schools in western Queensland ended their school year last week.?
